HOW IT WORKS There is sufficient heat to be drawn from the collectors, the controller automatically activates the pumps. Heated solar fluid is then circulated from the collectors, through the heat exchanger where its heat is transferred to water in the storage tank. The solar liquid is then pumped back to the collectors to once again be reheated. This circulation loop will continue as long as there is heat to be drawn from the collectors. The solar heated water in the storage tank is available for distribution to the house heating system directly. When there is a draw for domestic hot water, the solar hot water module will heat fresh cold water by transferring the heat from the solar storage tank to the fresh cold water. During times when there is little or no sun, a backup heating system will be activated to provide adequate hot water for space heating and domestic use.
Packaged systems estimated to produce an average solar fraction up to 60% for domestic hot water and up to 50% for space heating, provided the following installation guidelines are followed: 1. Collectors are mounted at the ideal angle of 45 degrees. 2. Collectors are mounted due south +/- 15 degrees. 3. The collectors are free of shading from nearby obstacles.
