Lab In A Suitcase |
International Aid’s Lab-in-a-Suitcase is an innovative resource for medical professionals and surveillance teams working in remote areas. This unique product offers the capability of critical laboratory measurements to underserved areas. More than 400 units are in use worldwide from the most remote locations to regions struck by disaster.
The Lab-In-A-Suitcase (LIS) is a portable laboratory that can be set up and used to perform 80% of the standard tests most frequently requested by field physicians. Recent focus on HIV, Malaria and TB has made the LIS one of the few viable field laboratories capable of diagnostic testing in communities which lack adequate electricity, technology, and consumables to support a permanent laboratory. The LIS can be used as a back-up diagnostic tool for hospitals where power and supplies are unreliable. The lab is frequently used by short-term mission teams in remote areas and is included in many portable medical units. The LIS is an important component of Primary Health Care programs.
KIT COMPONENTS
Binocular Microscope includes:
- Immersion oil, 1 box each of microscope slides and cover slips.
Microhematocrit Kit includes:
- Laminated reader scale, 2 vial micro capillary tubes (32mm 200/vial, EDTA) test, 2 trays Critoseal, auto lancet device,100 lancets, 100 alcohol swabs, tweezers, 2 boxes (50 ct) disposable gloves.
Hemocytometer Kit includes:
- Hemocytometer with cover slips, 2 hemocytometer filters for mouth pipette, 2 latex tubes for pipettes, 3 WBC pipettes.
Hematology Stain Kit includes:
- 1 box each slides and cover slips, drying rack, Coplin jar (plastic, screw cap), Wright quick stain.
ESR Sedimentation Kit includes:
- 22g stainless steel needle, 2 3cc syringes, Wintrobe tubes, 7-place rack.
Colorimeter Kit includes:
- A 1,000-5,000ul pipette, a 200-1000ul pipette, 100 large/small pipette tips, 100 culture tubes (12x75mm/100).
Urine Supply Kit includes:
- 1 box each microscope slides and cover slips, 1 sleeve urine specimen cups w/lids, 12ml urine centrifuge tubes with lids (12ml), 1 box of 100-10 parameter urine test strips.
Blood Collection Kit includes:
- 10 tourniquets, 50 EDTA vacutainer tubes, 100 red-top vacutainer tubes, 5 vacutainer holders, 100 needles.
LAB CAPABILITIES
- Urinalysis: (Macroscopy & Microscopy).
- Chemistry: Colormetric Profile Glucose, Creatinine, Total/Direct Bilirubin, Bun, Total Protein, Albumin, Calcuim (Reagents must be specified and purchased separately.).
- Hematology: Hematocrit ? RBC, WBC ? CBC Differential ? ESR Sedimentation Rate.

The Lab-in-a-Suitcase is designed for use electrical connections are setup to work as well as 120/230 volt AC adapters. In areas where electricity is unavailable.

NOT INCLUDED
The LIS does not include reagents necessary for use with the colorimeter, for two reasons. The reagents can be very difficult to ship, since some are flammable, require refrigeration, or have a short shelf life. We recommend that you purchase your reagents in-country. However, if this is unattainable, we can send you reagents via surface shipment only. Secondly, partner’s reagents needs vary depending on the specific work planned. If you would like to purchase reagents, please let us know and we will assist you.
