Steam engines, a tried-and-true old technology whose time may come again in this smaller package. The 5 HP Liberty produces up to 2000 watts and heats 50 gallons of water from ambient to boiling each hour. Use one as a back-up generator for cloudy days without wind or as a sole power source. In warm locations though, you may not want to produce this much heat on hot summer days. In cold places and during the winter, you can use the extra heat for hot water and for space heating. Though not as familiar to most people these days, there's nothing very complicated about setting up and using a steam engine and boiler. Includes comprehensive instructions and if you're "mechanicaly inclined", will be easy. The Liberty uses 10 to 20 GPH without a condensor. A condensor greatly slows water use and heats a huge amount of hot water. Built to standards written for large, commercial boilers, ours are overly strong and should last at least 50 years. Expect the engine to last at least 20 years.
