Liege Killer

Internet Top 100

Great books not only entertain, they spring new and thought-provoking ideas onto our often unsuspecting consciousness. Sometimes it seems like authors use the suspense and excitement of the story as a way to keep us reading while they slip in their real message. Other books don't seem to have a message, just the action and entertainment some writers really want to communicate and some just want to sell books and get famous.

Liege Killer ranks high on the entertainment level and also poses a serious question: what technology boundaries should society and government impose, how much should be left open? A strong case for both positions gets dramatically acted out and an interesting synthesis emerges.

A challenging mystery also unfolds and keeps you guessing, not quite sure until the culprit is finally exposed. Other parts though strain believability and detract from the plot flow. (If you've already read the book, see notes.)

In sum, an exciting, fun (though somewhat overly and unnecessarily violent), page-turning science fiction mystery. Lots of entertainment but not much to think about.
